The King of Kings: Meditations on the Coronation
The upcoming coronation ceremony for King Charles III, with all its dignity and splendour, is an invitation to lift our thoughts to the spiritual majesty of King Jesus. This collection of meditations on a past coronation directs us to consider various aspects of the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Originally a set of papers read at the annual conference of the Sovereign Grace Union on the eve of the coronation of King George VI in 1937, this collection of addresses retains much spiritual profit. In their addresses, speakers from the Church of England, the Strict Baptists, and the Free Church of Scotland (including Principal John Macleod of the Free Church College, who also preached the conference sermon) encourage us to look beyond the earthly spectacle and think especially of the King of kings and Lord of lords.
Christ came to set up a kingdom which rests on righteousness. He laid its foundation in his service of love even unto death, and now he has the right to bestow life everlasting. So in the kingdom of grace, which is the vestibule of the kingdom of glory, we get the good of the service rendered by the king himself when he came in the form of a servant. He did his work and the reward of his love is his people’s everlasting salvation.
