Jonah (Geneva Series of Commentaries)
Hugh Martin shows us that the book of Jonah has tremendous relevance for the Christian in every age, and the spiritual lessons which he draws from the experiences of this prophet are most remarkable. Each chapter deals with a particular theme and the book therefore may be read easily as well as being used as a commentary. Hugh Martin (1822-85) was one of the most outstanding men in that “galaxy of gifted and devoted ministers of the Gospel” in Scotland during the second half of the 19th century. In his writings he is unsurpassed, for “no one could scale higher heights of sanctified eloquence.” His works, which include “The Shadow of Calvary,” “Christ’s Presence in the Gospel History,” and “The Atonement,” continue to be in demand today.
