Hold Fast Your Confession
Scottish theology has always shown a special interest in the doctrine of the church and that interest shows no sign of abating. The echoes of the two great union controversies of 1900 and 1929 have still not died away. Scottish churchmen played a major part in the emergence of the ecumenical movement and are still deeply involved in its development. And such topics as Christian unity, the Westminster Confession and episcopacy can still generate passionate interest among adherents of all denominations.
All the articles in this book were written by ministers of the Free Church of Scotland and together they constitute a contemporary statement of the distinctive principles of that denomination. The points of view expressed, however, are shared by many Christians all over the world and the volume should be useful far beyond the confines of one particular tradition. It treats thoroughly the various questions it raises but avoids a pretentiously academic approach and should appeal to all, lay and clerical, who are interested in the outlook of Scottish Presbyterianism.
